Delta > US Airways

I flew US Airways recently and… it was pretty lame. The plane was new, which was nice, but had 0 entertainment options. 5+ hours of nothingness. No TV, No cheesy air radio, No movies… nothing. Also, NO peanuts or pretzels.

I also flew delta recently. They had satellite TV, a wide range of movies and TV shows, radio, games, AND pretzels / cookies. Sure their plane was a little older, but at least I was entertained the whole time.

Oh, and the first US Airways plane I got on had a crack in the cargo area so we needed to take another plane… on-time flight Fail.

Idiot on the 101N

This morning, on the 101 north, I was about 8 cars behind (and two lanes over from) an idiot on the freeway. He was driving a dark green modified pickup with what looked like plywood in the back… Going uphill a piece of wood the size of a double bed got kicked up from his truck bed and was sticking straight up. It hadn’t fallen out (yet) but it was sticking straight up, only about 25% of it still in the truck bed, pieces of other wood flying out behind him onto the other cars. Instead of pulling over at this point, to remedy his soon to be road hazard, the idiot speeds up and pulls from lane 4 into lane 3! Further from the shoulder! While I try to decide if I want to hang back or try to pass him quickly before the plywood comes flying out of his truck… it comes loose, hits a few cars, hits the divider, and luckily misses me since I had slowed down during my moment of indecision.

What an idiot. He should have just pulled over and taken care of that as soon as everything came loose earlier.

Moving is a pain but a good opportunity

Several months ago, after graduating, I decided to move from my apartment near school to a more active area in LA.  This seemed like a great idea at the time, but I have to say… moving is a pain! I’ve been moved into my new place for well over a month now and still have so many things in boxes.  It just takes a lot of time and effort to sort through everything and adapt all your belongings to an entirely new space.

I used some Los Angeles Moving Company to move all my heavy furniture and such, but did most of the boxes myself.  It definitely was a great help to have movers moving even some of the items, but that doesn’t take away from the annoying factor of sorting through everything.  On the night side, though, ever since my Movers (Los Angeles) brought everything in I’ve had a reason to look at each item I own and really evaluate if it is worth keeping, worth donating, or worth selling.  Generally we don’t take the time to go through everything this way, and every few years it becomes much needed.

If you’re moving anytime soon, good luck with the mess!!

Ash on my car

The last two mornings my car has been covered in ash when I’ve gone out to leave for work.
The massive Station fire has been burning for a while now. I live about 10 miles southeast of the fire areas and we’ve had favorable winds most of the time, blowing the smoke and ash in the directions away from us. The last couple days though, it seems, over night when the breeze dies down ash settles, all the way where we are.

Even 40-50 miles out from the fire the skies are hazy from the smoke.

Hopefully this can be cleared up soon, I’d like to have an ash free car at some point in the near future.

Here is a view of the fire from my place when it was still relatively small:

Here is a panoramic shot from my last visit to Alaska.  This was created by stitching together several photos.

Viva Lost Wages

Being in LA I am pretty close to Las Vegas.  Unfortunately it is still a drive away and flights haven’t been too cheap lately.  I found this service online called Casino R Us which offers gambling tours of Las Vegas!  Unfortunately, they only leave from Pittsburgh & Erie, PA and Myrtle Beach, SC.  Why don’t we have gambling tours leaving from Los Angeles?  To be honest, I don’t really like gambling, but I do like going to Las Vegas, seeing the hotels and the casinos, and I will spend a small amount of time in a casino watching others gamble and maybe spending a little bit of money here and there on myself.  Personally, I have a strong preference for the hotels on the strip, like MGM, Venetian, Paris, Mirage, etc.

It would be great though if I could take a big group on a “Las Vegas Tour” leaving from LA taking us to a few of the different hotels.  Big group trips have been a challenge to organize since its hard to get everyone to Las Vegas at the same time, but I feel like a set tour would conquer that issue.  If you are from PA or SC you should check out Casino R Us and their Las Vegas guide and tours.

Happy Traveling.

Strange but Amusing – Echo Park Time Travel Mart

A good friend of mine linked me to this earlier today.  Thats right! It is the Echo Park Time Travel Mart!  I need to go and take a look at this place myself…  I’m runnin dangerously low on anti-robot fluid!

Have any of you been yet?  Give me details!

At least I don’t have to wear contacts anymore

It has been very windy in socal yesterday and today.  I remember a few years ago when I used to wear glasses and contacts I hated everytime it rained or got windy.  Rain meant my glasses would get wet, which was a drag if I actually wanted to see where I was going, and wind meant i would get dust and debris on my contacts and they would dry out so it would be an all together uncomfortable experience.

Lucky for me I don’t wear those anymore, I had my eyes corrected a while back.  I originally went in to get Lasik eye surgery, but that didn’t quite work out.   My corneas were deemed too thin, so I had to settle for an older procedure called PRK.  Now my eyes aren’t a perfect 20/20 but at least its manageable and I don’t need to wear my glasses or contacts!

Hopefully, regardless of my eyewear, the weather will clear up and we can have warmish, calm, sunny days here in the southland.
