Help my friends win their dream wedding!!

For those of you in SoCal, I’m sure you have heard that KIIS FM is letting couple compete to win their dream wedding.  As soon as I heard about it, I wondered if any of the soon to be married couples I knew were going to make their couples page and compete to win.  Not long after the contest started accepting entries I heard that a good friend of mine from law school, Nick, and his fiance have entered! Take a few minutes and help win by just visiting their couple’s page: http://vipnetwork.kiisfm.com/future_looks.  Leaving comments (either on the page, pictures or blogs) also gives them extra points towards winning, so they are definitely welcome [but you must become a KIIS VIP member (see instructions at the bottom of this post for that)].

A quick background on Nick and his fiance Jess, how I know them, and why you should visit their page and help them win:

Nick is one of my friends from Law School, and aside from being Canadian, he’s a really great guy.  Easy going, always nice, not like the usual douche bags you come across in law school…Sincerely a great guy.

Last February, he proposed to his girlfriend of almost 2 years.  The way they met and their relationship developed is a great story.  Back in the ’70s, both Nick and Jessica’s parents — no, not the same “Nick and Jessica” from TV — worked at Xerox.  Their families became great friends, and kept in close contact throughout the ’80s and early ’90s.  In 1996, however, Nick’s family moved to California (if you ask me, it was a good move, but you know, put a small bump in the development of a great relationship).  Although, their dad’s remained in contact, 1996 was the last time either family had seen each other.  Nearly 10 years later, Nick was working full time in southern California, and Jessica was finishing up her last year of University in Hawaii.  While on her last Christmas break of undergrad, Jessica and her parents decided to take a two-week vacation in California (maybe we should call this “when the stars aligned”).  Jessica’s dad called up a long lost friend — Nick’s dad — and arranged for the two families to meet up for dinner.  Neither Jessica nor Nick knew that the other was going to be there, and both had only vague memories of each other. However, when Nick walked into the room to greet “the St. James family,” he saw Jess, and it was love at first sight.  They chatted all night long and arranged to meet up the next day, which was Jess’s last day in California.  The next night they had an amazing date but a very tearful goodbye when the night ended — Jess was going back to Hawaii … for good.  However, Nick and Jess remained in contact throughout the following months, and later that Summer, Jessica decided to attended Pepperdine University to get her Masters in Education (which happens to be where Nick and I go to law school, I know, you’re shocked).  Now, Nick is finishing up Law School and Jessica is starting her 2nd year of teaching High School Biology.  They are, of course, still madly in love, and still in shock that they managed to find each other after all those years.  I should probably add that they are absolutely adorable together…  Really.

Anyway, after Nick proposed, Jess accepted, and they started planning their wedding, they heard about the KIIS FM wedding contest.  They have an amazing back story and really deserve to have a beautiful wedding that they wouldn’t be able to give themselves on the budget of a law student and high school teacher.  The way it works is each couple creates a “couple’s page” and detail why THEY are the “perfect couple.”  Nick and Jess have made their page and would really appreciate your support.  They have until the 29th to get as much page activity as possible to wow the judges. So GO TO their couple’s page: http://vipnetwork.kiisfm.com/future_looks.  If you want to go the extra mile… LEAVE COMMENTS!!

After the 29th, the judges will announce between 10 and 20 finalists.  Then the voting period begins.  Lets hope they make it so I can let you guys know to vote daily!!

Thanks a lot everybody.  Your support is much appreciate by both myself and Nick and Jess.

argh

Three things:

  1. I’m sick, it blows.
  2. It is incredibly hot out today.
  3. I hate people who drive slow in the fast lane.  Slow being defined as at or below the speed limit.  You have 4 other lanes, drive slow in those ones!

Is a female butler called a butless?

A friend of mine asks:

Is a female butler called a butless? You know, like baron — baroness.

Or is it butlette, like bachelor — bachelorette?

I said it would be a maid, or female butler.

My little robotic cleaning slave

I finally purchased my own roomba!   I bought the Roomba 550, pretty good deal.  It comes with 3 extra filters, brush cleaner, 2 virtual walls/lighthouses (it has a switch, can work as either one), self charging docking station, and the roomba (with scheduling built in).

I set up the dock last night, charged it up, set the schedule (for thursdays), and hit clean to watch it on its first exploration.  It did a pretty good job!  Picked up a lot of dust off the floor and carpets.  Better yet, I didn’t see it leave anything behind.  I have a medium carpet, tile floors, and some small rugs (bathroom/kitchen).  It did not have issues with any of those.  I also used one of my virtual walls to keep it away from my rotuer/modem and some wires, and that worked out great as well.

I will try to get some video of it later to show you how it explored and cleaned.  So far, its pretty amazing!  Everyone should get one so your place can stay clean while you do other things!

If you are a costco member, should probably get it there, they have a pretty good deal on them.

I Beat Mario Galaxy!

This was a total team effort between my sister and I.  I played mario, she collected the star bits, made me jump higher, and froe the bad guys…  We beat a few stars per sitting and without even realizing it was over.  The game was AMAZING, and if you can’t beat one level (I couldn’t beat one honeycomb level) don’t worry, you don’t need ot beat each an every one.  Consider Mario Galaxy this months timewaster.  :-)

Get a Wii, play Mario Galaxy.  It really is amazing.

…and if you get stuck, follow a walkthrough guide.

Solving those Club Live puzzles

Finals are OVER!  Sure I don’t really have a summer break, but at least finals are over.

Now I’m back to playing videogames, watching tv, sleeping, and blogging.

Speaking of games, for those of you who play word games, you should check out this site.  The guy who runs the site is a talented programmer who just put up a script that solves word scramble puzzles.

Check it out…. great for cheating in scrabble too :-p

Tivo Update

For those of you who read my post about how my tivo hates me, because it decides to update WHILE I’m watching and then takes “one hour, possibly longer” to install the updates…. I just wanted to let you know that it did not erase my settings or shows!  Small Victories.

Tivo, why do you suck at life?

So, I’m happily outlining for finals…ok, maybe not happily, but I’m doing it, and I have my TV on. Watching things on my tivo… Next thing I know it goes silent. What? Why? I look up and the screen says “Welcome! Powering up…”

I think to myself “well thats strange, its never powered up by itself BEFORE”

A few minutes later the next screen says something to the effect of “Just a few more minutes…”

Ok, you’ve totally interrupted my viewing experience, thanks Tivo.

I look up 5 minutes later and it says “Installing an important sevice update”

Ok, fine, this sounds legitimate…

A few minutes later, I get this AWESOME message “Preparing the service update. This may take up to an hour, possibly longer”

Tivo-PossiblyLonger

WHAT?!?!?!?! Wait a second, I never asked to install anything, why are you ruining the rest of my night? Couldn’t you prompt me for this?

Next thing you’re going to tell me you had to reformat and you’ve lost all my season pass info and my recorded programs…. I guess in an hour or “possibly longer” we’ll find out.

:shakes fist at tivo:
