The technology is available to mask the sonic boom sound, its just not being utilized. Residents opposition to faster airplanes due to noise concerns is the sole reason the concord died, not because it was fuel inefficient as some lead the public to believe. It was the noise level restrictions and taxes placed on flying fast aircrafts. It is illegal to fly non-military airplanes over mach without prior permission by the FAA. I have to agree. As a person living in Los Angeles, and 3 large airports nearby. Van Nuys, Burbank, and Los Angeles, between all the jets it gets noisy as it is. I can do without a sonic boom as well.
