Faster Flying & Travel? I sure hope so.

I have been complaining for a while now (fly faster, please) about how consumer travel has not improved in something like 30 years. We are flying the same planes at the same speeds with no major improvements (some safety improvements yes, but we’re not getting places any faster). We don’t even fly the concord anymore which was an improvement for those making the trans-atlantic journey. With all the advances in electronics, computers, and the internet I feel like real life traveling has stalled, but I am thirlled to say that I read an article recently about Lockheed Martin currently designing a new small passenger jet (12 passenger) that would travel 1,200 mph (mach 1.8). I know this aircraft would be an exclusive commodity and out of reach for the general public, but this is a great step in the right direction. Hopefully the popularity of this aircraft will prompt more and larger planes that travel at these speeds (making it more accessible to the average Joes like you and I).
Thank you, for actually making an effort to improve travel. Maybe by the time I’m an OLD lady, it won’t take me 12 hours to get to London. I like to travel, I like to fly…Lets make this happen.

I almost want to get a Razr now just because the accessories are so cheap.

Surviving Law School?

I am about 1.5 weeks in to my Law School Career and the one thing I have certainly learned is that this is a survival game.  Yes I know, they say “do your reading, your briefs, and your outlines and you will do well!”, but it’s BS.  You have to do those, endure your droning classmates who thrive off being heard in class, read the supplements for your classes, find time for the daily duties you owe to yourself (eat, sleep, shower), and survive the stress from all of this.  Boiling it all down to first year just being a survival game.  Who can survive all this and still coherantly take their final?

All this work makes a lot of us think about how awesome it would be if we weren’t here… I’m not going to be dropping out, but for those who have figured out that this is one game they don’t want to play, here’s a list of famous law school drop outs.  In other words, if this isn’t the palce for you, you can still be successful.  Enjoy!

Famous law school dropouts!

  • President Lyndon Johnson
  • President William McKinley
  • President Franklin Roosevelt
  • President Theodore Roosevelt
  • President Harry Truman
  • President Woodrow Wilson
  • Almost-President Al Gore
  • Martin Luther
  • Harper Lee (To Kill a Mockingbird)
  • Steve Jackson (of Steve Jackson Games)
  • Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr.
  • Ray Manzarek of The Doors
  • Limited founder and richest man in Columbus Les Wexner (apparently an Ohio State law school dropout)
  • Carly Fiorina (Former HP Chairman and CEO)
  • Donald Rumsfeld
  • Karl Marx
  • Novelist/murderer Michael Peterson

Turning off your PC-Speaker

I noticed some people inquiring about how to turn off your internal PC-Speaker on other websites so I’m answering the Question here:

  • Obtain and install TweakUI.
  • Choose the General tab, and turn off the Beep on Errors option.

Another alternative it to go into the registry editor and change the options there (I don’t recommend this for those unfamiliar with Windows Registry):

  • Start –> Run –> regedit
  • Go to this key and set the values accordingly [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Sound] “Beep”=”no” “ExtendedSounds”=”no”

The last and final way I can think of is:

1. Right-click on My Computer
2. On the Hardware tab, click on [Device Manager]
3. On the “View” menu, select “Show hidden devices”
4. Under “Non-Plug and Play Drivers”, right-click “Beep”
5. Click “Disable”
6. Answer [Yes] when asked if you really want to disable it
7. Answer [No] when asked if you want to reboot
8. Right-click “Beep” again.
9. Click “Properties”
10. On the “Driver” tab, set the Startup type to Disabled
11. Click [Stop]
12. Click [OK]
13. Answer [No] when asked if you want to reboot

Good Luck and let me know if you have any questions.

Awesome Gadget, USB SIM and Multi Card Reader

I am totally buying this: iMono Sim Card + Multi Card Reader
This is a small USB device packed with goodness! It is a multi card reader supporting these formats:

  • mini SD Card, Micro SD (T-Flash), Secure Digital Card
  • MMC Card 4.0, MultiMedia Card, MultiMedia Card Plus
  • RS-MMC (MMC Mobile), RS-MMC4.0 (MMC Mobile 4.0)
  • MMC micro
  • MS / MS Duo / MS PRO Duo
  • Mobile SIM Card
  • Best part is it reads and writes to SIM cards! You can use this device to backup and edit your phonebook entries. Considering that I am paranoid about losing my phone and losing all my numbers with it, this sounds like an awesome utility.
I am excited and putting my order in right now, are you?

    50,000 Page Views!

I broke 50,000 page views sometime early this morning!  (This is calculated since I started tracking pageviews on 8/1/2006).

I’m just going to take this opportunity to congratulate myself on breaking the 50k pageviews mark in under one month.  Guess the hardwork is paying off.
    Have a great Saturday!

Cool applet, takes you from the Milky Way to Earth to Quarks.

Florida State University has put up a very interesting Java applet on its website.

It begins as a view of the Milky Way Galaxy from a distance of 10 million light years and then zooms in towards Earth in powers of ten of distance -10 million, to one million, to 100,000 light years, etc.,until it finally reaches a large oak tree leaf.

But that is not all. It zooms into the leaf until it reaches to the level of the quarks viewed at 100 attometers. Whew! You really don’t have to understand all this to be awed by what you see, so go ahead! Fun times, try it out.
